Since my place is some 4 blocks from the Riverfront it's been my living room for almost two years now.
Himmarshee village (Riverfront bar area) - west/across the tracks off the mall/parking garages, locals would usualy be here: used to eat at Creolina's once a week - new orleans/creole. ~9-10pm wed-fri when the crowd would start to build up, you'r right in the center of it all - good way to catch up on what's happening that night. Across the street there's Himarashee bar/grill - the best hallibut, ppl watch, littl pricey. They tend to close kinda early. Slightly hidden by the river there's River House, usualy too quiet for me, but it's one of the nicest places here.
If you'd walk by the river (riverwalk park?) all the way east across US1 - you have las olas shops: Shizen - a new trendy renovation of Japanese Village; the best sushi in ft Lauderdale, tuna tataki is a piece of art, plum wine in martini glassen... open till 2am! O'Hare's jazz next door for some digestifs... La Bonne Crepe - an interesting take on crepes.
and all the way east there's Floridian - an ultra old 24hour eatery. Lately I've been stopping by there since it's the only place where you can get something after 2-3am.
